Победа советского народа в Великой Отечественной войне с немецко-фашистскими захватчиками в 1941-1945 гг. была завоевана огромным усилием и с громадными жертвами благодаря небывалому героизму на фронтах, трудовому подвигу в тылу, сплочённости и братству народов СССР. История Якутии в годы Великой Отечественной войны - особая страница. Наш народ не забывает те времена. Это время осталось в памяти народа навсегда. Достойную лепту в общее дело Победы как на фронте, так и в тылу внесли и народы Якутии. Невзирая на все лишения и потери, народ саха с честью выдержал жестокие испытания военного времени, каждодневным ратным и трудовым подвигом неуклонно приближая день Победы. Настойчиво, в течение полувека, с присущим ему упорством и усердием изучением вклада народов Якутии в общее дело Победы в Великой Отечественной войне занимался известный ученый-историк Дмитрий Дмитриевич Петров - признанный специалист по военно-исторической тематике. Его монография в двух частях «Якутия в годы войны» - фундаментальное исследование истории Якутии в годы войны. Ученый издал сборник документов и материалов, письма солдат, воспоминания. Его научные работы, признанные народом, явились серьезным вкладом в отечественную историографию Великой Отечественной войны. На основе найденных наградных листов он добился присвоения высокого звания Героя Советского Союза воинам-якутянам. Умело сочетая научную деятельность с практикой, внес достойную лепту в увековечение светлой памяти погибших воинов на местах сражений. Как историк-исследователь Д.Д. Петров осуществил поистине подвижническую работу, которая могла быть под силу крупному исследовательскому учреждению. Труды Д.Д. Петрова до сих пор остаются основными, практически единственными научными исследованиями и работами, опубликованными по истории участия Якутии в Великой Отечественной войне.

The peoples of Yakutia also made their worthy contribution to the common cause of the Victory both at the front and in the rear. Despite all the hardships and losses, the people of Sakha withstood the hardships of wartime with honor, steadily approaching the Victory Day with their daily military and labor feats. Persistently, over half a century, with his tenacity and diligence to study the contribution of the peoples of Yakutia in common Victory in the Great Patriotic War was engaged in a famous historian Dmitry Dmitrievich Petrov, a recognized expert on military history topics. His monograph in two parts “Yakutia during the war” is a fundamental study of the history of Yakutia during the war. The scientist published a collection of documents and materials, letters of soldiers, memoirs. His scholarly works, recognized by people, made a significant contribution to the national historiography of the Great Patriotic War. On the basis of the found award lists, he achieved the assignment of the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union to the Yakut soldiers. Skillfully combining scholarly activities with practice, he made a worthy contribution to the perpetuation of the bright memory of the fallen soldiers on the battlefields. As a research historian, D. D. Petrov carried out a truly ascetic work, which could be done by a large research institution. The works of D. D. Petrov still remain the main, in general, the only scholarly research and works published on the history of the participation of Yakutia in the Great Patriotic War.
