The life of a modern Yakut village: the case of Meyik and Tamalakan villages of Verkhneviluysky District

Abstract

The changes taking place in the modern village attract the attention of many scholars and act as a subject of research in various sciences. The social changes taking place in the rural environment are discussed. These include migration, demographic and infrastructural conditions, socio-economic development, changes in socio-cultural life, adaptation of rural residents to new living conditions emerging the history of everyday life, attempts to extrapolate the connecting elements of the structure of everyday life are especially relevant. Thus, we can take a different look at the political, economic, social, and cultural processes in society that affect the everyday life of a person and transform the thinking of modern villagers to one degree or another. Yakut village today is a unique form of life organization, where the traditions of the people and the processes of cultural globalization are closely intertwined. With the change in the format and way of life, an acute question is brewing about the future of Yakut villages: either villages will be able to transform and find new ways of development, or with a decreased number of residents and the interest of the population, Yakut villages will cease to exist. This article examines what place traditional cattle breeding occupies in everyday space.
