The relevance of the topic chosen by us lies in the fact that it is in the family through the processes of raising children in the traditions, norms, customs, in the knowledge of the native language that the worldview and self-consciousness of representatives of a certain ethnic group is formed. Therefore, the interest in the problems of the family among researchers is clear. Special attention among researchers is the topic of the traditional family and family relations among the indigenous peoples of the North, in particular, the Yakuts. The purpose of this article is to analyze the processes of transformation of family and marriage relations among Yakuts based on the materials of the First General Population Census of 1897. The study of the historiography of the issue allowed us to form an idea of the traditional family-marriage relations of the Yakuts, and work on archival material to analyze the changes that occurred in this area at the end of the 19th century. When working on the topic, we were guided by the methods of scientific research: historical, comparative analysis, systems approach, the principle of objectivity. The study of archival materials allowed us to conclude that the traditional family and marriage relations at the end of the 19th century did not have any fundamental changes.
